Erlang users enthusiastic about QuviQ QuickCheck

9 November 2006

John Hughes presented results obtained using QuickCheck at Ericsson to 150 Erlang enthusiasts at the 12th International Erlang/OTP conference, hosted by Ericsson at their Älvsjö conference centre in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference is the gathering of the year for commercial Erlang users, and the best venue to address the Erlang market. This year's attendance equalled the previous record, set during the IT boom--but whereas at that time Ericsson employees accounted for 60% of attendees, this year 60% came from other companies around the world.

After whetting delegates' appetites with the conference talk, Quviq presented a three-hour QuickCheck tutorial on the following morning, one of three parallel post-conference seminars. The tutorial attracted great interest--although it was assigned the largest of the three available rooms, it was so over-subscribed that participants crammed into the room bringing folding chairs to sit on to supplement the seating. As well as a gentle introduction to QuickCheck in general, the tutorial presented Quviq's new state-machine library, which when applied to the Media Proxy example, reduced the amount of QuickCheck code needed by 40%.

The enthusiasm generated by the two talks was tremendous, and will surely lead to new customers in the Erlang market in the near future.
